Comparison between body mass index and mid upper arm circumference for classifying nutritional status of pregnant women: a prospective cohort study

چکیده
Background: BMI is used to assess nutritional status of pregnant women however weight gain during pregnancy confounds the later in pregnancy. Unlike weight, MUAC does not undergo significant change as advances. We aim compare changes and over various trimesters whether less compared weight. Methods: In this prospective observations study, measurements were taken 300 different trimesters. Chi-square tests conducted associations between socio-demographic indicators status. Correlation coefficients calculated three ANOVA on their respective mean differences trimesters. Results: Mean difference 0.43 cm (3.2%) was noted 5.32 kg/m2 (23.14%) from first third trimester. No observed MUACs second (p=0.326) (p=0.143) but, it significantly (p=0.003). Significant BMIs (p=0.05), (p<0.001) (p<0.001). positive all trimesters. Conclusions: Positive correlations found MUAC. Less than seems be a reliable tool for assessing antenatal women.

Low Mid-Upper Arm Circumference, Calf Circumference, and Body Mass Index and Mortality in Older Persons
BACKGROUND Low body mass index is a general measure of thinness. However, its measurement can be cumbersome in older persons and other simple anthropometric measures may be more strongly associated with mortality. Therefore, associations of low mid-upper arm circumference, calf circumference, and body mass index with mortality were examined in older persons. METHODS Data of the Longitudinal A...
متن کاملRelationship between Mid-Upper Arm Circumference and Body Mass Index in Inpatients
INTRODUCTION Nutritional screening is a fundamental aspect of the initial evaluation of the hospitalised patient. Body Mass Index (BMI) in association with other parameters is a good marker of malnutrition (<18.5 kg/m2), but it presents the handicap that the great majority of patients cannot be weighed and measured. For this reason it is necessary to find other indicators that can be measured i...
متن کاملBody mass index and waist circumference are good indicators for classifying children's nutritional status.
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between anthropometric indicators - body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) - and the sum of skinfold thicknesses in 7-10-year-old children attending a public school in São Paulo (SP). Height, weight, WC and triceps, biceps, subscapular and suprailiac skinfolds were measured, and the sum of skinfold thick...
متن کاملMid-upper-arm circumference as a screening measure for identifying children with elevated body mass index: a study for Pakistan
Purpose Mid-upper-arm circumference (MUAC) is considered an alternative screening method for obesity. The aims of this investigation were to examine the ability of MUAC to correctly identify children with elevated body mass index (BMI) and to determine the best MUAC cutoff point for identification of children with high BMI. Methods Anthropometric measurements (height, weight, and MUAC) from a...
